Welcome to Part 7 of our Star Wars: Unlimited tutorial series! If you’re ready to take the game beyond one-on-one duels, the Twin Suns format offers a thrilling multiplayer experience with unique rules, deckbuilding challenges, and strategic twists. Whether you're hosting a casual game night or a community event at Woody’s Geekery, this guide will help you set up and play Twin Suns with confidence.

Star Wars: A New Hope

🌞 What Is Twin Suns Format?

Twin Suns is a multiplayer variant of Star Wars: Unlimited designed for three or more players. Each player brings a deck with two leaders, and gameplay includes special counters and modified rules to keep things balanced and dynamic.

🧪 Deckbuilding Rules

Building a Twin Suns deck is a bit different from standard play:

  • 2 Leaders: Your deck must include exactly two different leaders. They must share either the Heroic or Villainous aspect.

  • 1 Base: Just like standard play.

  • 80+ Cards: Your deck must include at least 80 other cards (units, events, upgrades).

  • Singleton Rule: You may only include one copy of each card in your deck—including leaders, unless otherwise specified.

    • You can still control multiple copies of non-unique cards through game effects.

Deckbuilding Tip: Choose leaders that complement each other’s strengths and aspect icons to maximize synergy.

🧰 Game Setup

Setup is similar to standard multiplayer, with a few key changes:

  1. Place Your Base: Face your opponent(s).

  2. Place Both Leaders: Put both leaders into play below your base, Leader side faceup.

  3. Determine Initiative: Randomly assign the initiative counter to one player.

  4. Add Special Counters: Place the blast counter and plan counter in the center of the play area.

🎯 Special Counters Explained

Twin Suns introduces two new counters that players can take during the Action Phase:

  • Blast Counter 💥 → Deal 1 damage to each opponent’s base when taken.

  • Plan Counter 🧠 → Draw 1 card, then place 1 card from your hand on the bottom of your deck.

Players may only take one counter per round, and taking a counter ends your participation in that round’s Action Phase.

🔄 Action Phase: Multiplayer Style

Players take turns performing one action at a time, choosing from:

  • Play a card

  • Attack with a unit

  • Use an action ability

  • Take an available counter (initiative, blast, or plan)

Important Differences:

  • You cannot pass unless all counters are taken or you’ve already taken one.

  • Once you take a counter, you’re done for the round—you must pass on future actions.

  • In a 3-player game, the third player will always take the last counter, ending the phase.

  • In a 4-player game, the last player may pass once all counters are taken.

💀 Player Elimination & Healing

If you eliminate another player by defeating their base, you heal 5 damage from your own base. If a player eliminates themselves (via card effect), no one receives healing.

🏁 Ending the Game

Once a player is eliminated, the game ends at the end of the current phase. The player with the most HP remaining on their base wins.

  • If there’s a tie, those players share the victory.

  • All “until end of phase” effects expire normally.

🧠 Strategy Tips

  • Counter Timing Matters: Taking blast early can soften opponents, but plan helps you dig for answers.

  • Leader Synergy: Choose leaders that cover each other’s weaknesses and offer flexible deployment options.

  • Board Awareness: In multiplayer, threats come from all sides—balance offense and defense carefully.

  • Elimination Bonus: Healing 5 damage can swing the game—watch for opportunities to finish off a rival.

🚀 Final Thoughts

Twin Suns is a fantastic way to expand Star Wars: Unlimited into a social, strategic multiplayer experience. With two leaders, singleton decks, and powerful counters, every round is packed with tough decisions and cinematic moments. It’s perfect for game nights, community events, or just shaking up your usual playgroup.
